A Little HistoryCrossword Bible Ministries, Inc. started as a conversation between two friends over dinner in December of 2004. Buck Hoskin and Jeff Deloach decided to put a plan into action that would reach the general public for Christ. After many conversations and mentoring by Dr. Ralph Richardson (Bible Alive Ministries), Buck decided to implement Dr. Richardson's three-fold ministry plan in order to accomplish the goal of CBM Inc: "Reaching the Community for Christ". This plan was to include, but not limited to; Luncheon Bible Studies "in the market place" (Acts 17:17), a radio teaching ministry composed of 1-5 minute commercial "spots" on secular, Christian, AM, FM, and talk radio, and monthly Bible study bulletins and newsletters sent to the homes of all who wished to be included on the mailing list. "This program grows out of a conviction that the single greatest need among believers today is personal Bible study. Unless Christians are personally involved in an effective and sound study of God's Word on a daily basis, then they face the world unprepared, they attend church unprepared, and they engage in everyday activity unprepared." Dr. Ralph Richardson The problem lies with TIME. The age old excuse for man's inability to commit a portion of every day to the study of God's Word is; "I just don't have the time." In America today, everything and everyone are competing for the time of individuals. Employment takes up the majority of the daytime while entertainment, television, shopping, church activities, and family responsibilities take up a major portion of the night. Therefore, following the blueprint that was created by Dr. Richardson with Bible Alive Ministries, Buck and Jeff decided to take sound Bible teaching to "the market place" (Acts 17:17) and make available to the public a luncheon Bible study in restaurants during the lunch hour. The perfect compliment to the luncheon Bible Study is the Radio Bible teaching ministry which will air during drive times in the morning and evening. CrossWord Bible Ministries will purchase 1-5 minute Radio "spots" in order to broadcast 1 minute Gospel messages along with 2-5 minute teaching messages on subjects such as major doctrines of the Christian faith. The Radio ministry also gives us an avenue to promote the luncheon Bible Studies (times, places, and lessons), website, and Monthly Bible Study Bulletin mailing list. The bulletins and newsletters will be delivered to the home once a month and consist of personal, challenging Bible studies written by gifted pastors and evangelists. Since that time CrossWord has also organized, directed, and sponsored a FREE Christian Music festival called City Praises. The first City Praises took place in Argo, Alabama on the 20th of August 2005. The event showcased 10 independent Christian Music Artists, 5 grace oriented speakers, and was headlined by one of today's best Christian singer songwriters, Jill Phillips. CrossWord is also working in accordance with Grace Missions in order to direct, plan, and facilitate yearly mission trips to the Philippines. These mission trips will use a youth camp as the catalyst to share Jesus Christ with the Filipino people and train them to live the Spiritual, Christ centered, grace oriented life.
