City Praises /Camp Director
Debra Smith Debra became a Christian at Vacation Bible School at the early age of eight. She attended a local Baptist church on the west side of Birmingham, Alabama. Debra grew up attending youth camps and GA camps. After high school, she attended the University of Alabama and graduated with an Education degree in 1974. While at the U of A, Debra volunteered to help host a rally called Decision ’73. This rally involved area churches and the University of Alabama. It took place on the campus and was a great success. After a few years of teaching school, Debra married Boyce Smith from Birmingham, Alabama. They have two children, Travis, 23, and Carrie, 22. Boyce and Debra are the Youth leaders at their church and also are the directors of the Southeastern Youth Camp with over 200 in attendance each year. The camp has grown and now offers an adult camp, a preteen camp and a VBS day camp at another campground which can house about 700 campers. Debra loves to work with teenagers and young children. Wherever there is an opportunity to minister to young people for the Lord, she makes herself available. “Peace of Christ” – John 14:27
